Samsung Electronics declared on Thursday that it would release its next smart watch to its competitors who are also users of Google Inc’s (GOOGL.O) mobile platform Android. The new announcement aims to increase Samsung’s share in the market that is currently dominated by Apple Inc (AAPL.O).
The watch will be available in the market as of October, Samsung said at the IFA in Berlin, Europe’s largest Consumer Electronics Trade Show.
This new effort to include smart watches in Samsung’s market share could help the company. Recently Samsung has seen its influence in the markets shrink following “Arch”, Apple’s Apple watch introduction.
According to research undertaken by Strategy Analytics, the shipment of smart watches has increased globally from 1million in 2014 year to 5 million this year.
“We are leading the way in this segment,” said Younghee Lee, Samsung’s global marketing head for mobile. “But we realise we can’t do it alone.”
Samsung’s rival Apple Watch already captured 75 Percent global smart watch market share, followed by Samsung with an 8 Percent market share.
The Gear S2 watch was launched on Monday .However, Samsung did not give a price tag for the watch.
