The audio featuring #Mollis raises the debate about sex and consent and shows how ignorant kenyans are towards sexual violence and rape.
It took me a moment to learn what I was listening to when a friend sent me the #Mollis video on WhatsApp, but my face turned red the moment that it dawned on me that #Mollis, the guy who had set the national trend of the day was actually raping the girl in the audio.
I had seen a few comments about #Mollis on Facebook as early as Wednesday night, but those comments did not raise my curiousity high enough as to make me want to know more about the #Mollis saga.
It was only after I came from work on Thursday afternoon that I had a chance to listen to the recording in full. By this time, Kenyans On Twitter had already picked up the story and made #Mollis a local trend.
To Kenyans On Twitter and some high ranking celebrities in Kenya, the sound of a woman being raped had become a national joke. Thousands of #Mollis themed memes started to circulate around Twitter, Facebook, and WhatsApp.
#Mollis’s act of sexual assault and rape had made him a national hero and a representation of a macho man and male sexuality in Kenya.
What constitutes sexual assault?
Sexual Assault is an assault of a sexual nature that violates the sexual integrity of the victim. Sexual assault does not depend solely on contact with any specific part of the human anatomy but rather the act of a sexual nature that violates the sexual integrity of the victim.
Rape is a form of sexual assault in which the victim is humiliated, degraded, and left with feelings of shame, guilt, and anger.
Anyone who is forced to have sex against their will has effectively been raped.
#Mollis is a rapist who deserves to be punished for rape
The whole #Mollis saga has all the elements of sexual assault and rape. In the beginning of the audio, its clear that the girl tells him that he is raping her. Further, the girl keeps telling him that she has surrendered.
“Mollis (Morrisa) Stop, I sullender (I surrender)”
Kenyans on twitter took this as a show of the sexual prowess of the man in question, but the screams from the woman were not of pleasure but were clearly a call for him to stop hurting her.
The fact that she has a funny accent does not excuse people making fun of her for going through this traumatizing experience.
In my opinion, KOT should realize that every meme that they share is an act of condoning sexual violence.
Making fun of a woman whom is undergoing sexual assault because of her funny accent is a disgusting thing for any right thinking person.
